Over father’s day weekend, we went to the Hot Spot Car Rally in Thermopolis. Our journey from Casper took us through the beautiful Wind River Canyon. The walls of the canyon can reach as much as 2500 feet. It is spectacular, to say the least. On the way back through, I asked my husband if he could stop along the way so I could take some pictures. He asked me where I would like to stop. I told him to just stop at ALL the pull-outs. Boy, I didn’t realize there were so many! I sure was worn out getting in and out of the truck, climbing over guard rails, and walking around trying to get that perfect shot at every pull-out. Trust me, he was very diligent (and might I add very patient) making sure that we stopped at EVERY pull-out. (The moral of the story is: Be careful what you ask for. Hehe.)
Here are just a few of the nearly three hundred pictures that I took.
We noticed a couple of men climbing up the rocks here. (Center of the picture.)
I bet when this big guy (rock) fell from it’s perch, it scored on the Richter scale!
Notice the fish in the water?
There is actually a series of three tunnels that wind through the rock cliff. Unfortunately, I was only able to capture two of them.

Love the pics! Been there….and took at least 300 pics too! We come back to Wyoming this fall. Love it!
I think the fall season is the best time to be in Wyoming! I love the cooler temps and fall foliage.
You did a great job capturing the canyon…in the winter you can see the water/ice falls. love those! Wish I would have known you were here. Glad you had such a patient husband to let you take all these great pictures. 🙂
Thanks Leah! I would love to see the canyon in the winter. Those water/ice falls sound cool! 🙂
Makes me wish we had done more sightseeing growing up. Although at age nine, I might not have had the respect and admiration I have now! Really beautiful.
I know, right? I am at the age where I can appreciate what Wyoming had to offer. You will have to come visit and we can show you around. 🙂
A beautiful spot. We drove through there a couple of years ago, and I remember pretty much hanging my head out the window to try and see everything from every angle. Unfortunately, that was in my pre-photography phase, and I didn’t have the knowledge base to capture things the way I would now – I’ll have to come back one day, I guess!
I understand wanting to hang your head outside the window. There is so much to see at every angle. 🙂
Gorgeous photos, Kristina. The canyon is so majestic. Just love that big open sky you have there. Do you guys do any skiing or rafting?
Thanks Kris! The big open sky is one of the best things here. We don’t ski, but I am not apposed to learning how to cross-country ski. I would have to pass on that down hill stuff. I, also, would like to try rafting. It looked like so much fun.
Wow that look amazing, another place to add to my Bucket List
