Upon doing research for things to do and see in the Amarillo area, we came across Palo Duro Canyon (a.k.a. The Grand Canyon of Texas.) Apparently, it is the second largest Canyon in the United States. (Second only to the Grand Canyon.) So, we definitely had to check it out. And did I mention it was also on the way to our next destination? So all the travel logistics worked out. Yay me!
We were glad we took the time to check it out. The scenery was so pretty with it’s canyon walls layered in colorful rock. The size of the canyon is roughly 70 miles long with an average width of 6 miles. It’s also 820 feet deep and in some places it reaches 1,000 feet deep! It’s definitely not the “Grand Canyon” but, for Texas, it’s quite impressive!
